Here You can find the most important travel infos about our region whether you are planning to visit us by car or by plane. Stagnone is a very well communicated part of Sicily, thanks to its close distance from Palermo and even closer from Trapani Birgi airport.
Travel by car
Ferry
If traveling by car we can recommend taking a ferry from the North of Italy:
- from Livorno to Palermo book with GRIMALDI LINES

The ferry cruise is a good alternative to driving across Italy, both in terms of travel expenses and the ease of travelling. The cruise lasts around 20 hours, departures are usually scheduled for late evenings, so that you have all day to arrive to the harbour. The car drive from Palermo harbour to Birgi Vecchi is around 1,5 hour.
Car rental
It’s a good idea to rent a car during your stay in Sicily. A car is necessary to do grocery shopping, get to a restaurants or to the beaches around the area. It will also be very useful on rest/no wind days to go sightseeing around the Island. You can choose between various car rental companies at airports (and also use it for self transfer from/to an airport) or ask us to book a car for you with one of our local partner companies.
Travel by plane
Sicily can be reached with short/ low cost flights from most European cities.
There are 2 airports that are really close to the Stagnone lagoon. The closest one is Trapani – Birgi (only a 10minutes drive!). Otherwsie you can travel to Palermo (a 55minutes drive), Catania airport is a little more distant (~3,5 hours drive). Contact us if you need help to find the best flight connection for your travel.

There are direct flights to Trapani – Birgi airport from Warsaw – Modlin and Katowice, operated by ryanair airlines.

Airport transfers
You can book your airport transfer with us. The cost for a one-way shuttle is 65€ (from the Palermo airport), 20€ (from the Trapani-Birgi airport), 35€ (from the Trapani city).

Accomodations
Apartaments & Bed & Breakfast in a walking distance from the KiteSpot
Arranging an accomodation at Stagnone can sometimes be difficult. If you need help, we can arrange your holiday stay at Laguna Stagnone. We cooperate with different locations, both apartments and bed & breakfasts, located in the heart of the Birgi Vecchi village, mostly at a short walking distance from our kitesurf school. We have checked out every single accommodation in the area in the last 8 years, and can give you a good overview of the best ones.
Prices vary from 20€ to 50€ /night/person, depending on the standard and set-up of rooms/apartments. After choosing your accommodation we will ask you for a downpayment of 20% to confirm the booking. In high season (June-August) we recommend to book early.
WHAT IS AROUND TO SEE?
Trapani
With a charming city centre, various places for shopping local products and bars on every corner, it’s the ideal place for spending an evening out. Have a walk along the harbour and the old city walls, find your favourite coffee place and enjoy the local sweet/salty specialities. There’s more to discover than you’d expect.
Segesta
Castellamare del Golfo
A little harbour city of special charme, with a long sandy beach and a mountain at it’s back. Check out the Arab-Norman castle and the Mother Church or simply enjoy a coffee in one of the bars with sea view.
Erice
A medieval village on the top of a mountain with a spectacular view over Trapani. Considered as one of the most beautiful villages of Sicily, famous for it’s history and numerous churches. You can also reach it by a cable car (like the ones in the Alps) leaving from Trapani. Best enjoyed at the sunset.
Surfing

Can I book just one hour class to try kitesurfing?
Sure, we’re happy to give you a single 1 hour class so that you can check if you like kitesurfing!
What is the kitesurfing spot like?
It’s the ultimate playground for kitesurfers, which you will especially appreciate as a beginner. The standing-depth of the lagoon makes learning to kitesurf super safe, fast and easy. It is nearly impossible to compare it to any other place to practice kitesurfing in Europe.
Which airport should I travel to?
It’s best if you manage to fly to Trapani-Birgi, which is 5min away from our village. Palermo is also fine, it’s just 55min drive. Catania is more distant, it’s nice to combine it with a trip across the Island.
